Bharat Kala Bhavan Proposition

A Collection as a Point of Departure

At Bharat Kala Bhavan, one of India’s most significant university museums, the collection is not simply a backdrop for the Biennale. It is the starting point for a series of conversations between historical objects and modern and contemporary artistic practice.

Under the curatorial direction of Gayatri Sinha, works from the museum’s extraordinary holdings spanning painting, sculpture, textiles, manuscripts and archaeology will be brought into new relationships with contemporary painting, sculpture, photography, video and site-specific interventions.

Pramod Kumar KG will also work closely with the museum’s textile holdings to explore Banaras’s material histories, weaving lineages and their continuing reinterpretation in the present.
